Who we are
Through its specialist Associates, the firm boasts over 100 years’ KYC/AML experience.
Our experienced professionals have an understanding of traditions, customs, sensitivities and approaches from around the world having worked with corporates in UK, Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, Russia and CIS including firms in China, India, Japan, Korea, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and UAE.
We include barristers, qualified solicitors and professionals who have worked for the regulatory arm of the banking sector, and have held senior Money Laundering Reporting Officer and Nominated Officer roles.
We have an Advisory Council chaired by a respected industry figure whose role is to keep us in touch with the
coalface and the KYC/AML issues that arise day to day.
Meet the team
David Brimacombe MA
David is Chairman of the firm and has many years’ experience dealing with numerous issues involving Compliance, Financial Crime, CDD, KYC and AML. David qualified as a solicitor in England and Australia where he worked at Norton Rose and Mallesons Stephen Jacques.
He spent 19 years at Standard Chartered Bank where in addition to being Group Head of Legal, he was responsible for Financial Crime, CDD, KYC and AML for UK, Europe, Middle East and Africa.
David recently spent 3 years as a consultant with the Grant Thornton Financial Crime team in London working with UK and international clients on CDD/AML issues in the regulated and unregulated sectors.
David has delivered training for many prestigious organisations including LSE, IoD,IIF and Euromoney.
Darren Jones MA
Darren is the firm’s AML Director. Darren has many years’ experience dealing with a wide range of compliance issues including CDD, AML and KYC. He spent 10 years at Barclays Bank and 6 years at Santander UK dealing with large, international corporate clients where he was responsible for complex KYC structures and AML issues.
Recently, Darren spent 3 years at W2 Global Data, one of the UK’s leading supplier of AML compliance data and software, advising on complicated global AML matters and delivering training on all matters to do with KYC, AML and CDD.
KEITH LAURENCE BSC (ECON)
An experienced professional who has worked in the UK for global and regional banks focusing on Compliance, covering Client Due Diligence, Know Your Customer, Politically Exposed Persons and Anti Money Laundering.
Keith has held the role of Money Laundering Reporting Officer and Head of Compliance for a number of regulated entities. He has written financial crime policies, established compliance and AML procedure manuals, reviewed/updated CDD policies, compiled MLRO Reports for senior management including identifying areas for improvement in risk assessment, developed risk profiles by customer/product, developed a weighted risk scoring process for client on-boarding and delivered AML training.
Keith has worked with firm’s connected with China, Brazil, US, Jordan, UAE, South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan. Keith is a member of Member of MLROs.com – the support group for MLROs
Haris Syed MA/LLB
Haris focuses his practice on corporate governance, compliance, risk and financial crime. His assignments have included setting up Chief Compliance Officer and Chief Risk Officer functions, CEO reporting mechanisms, as well as group risk assurance processes including anti-money laundering strategies. He has also been involved in setting up board and executive committees with a focus on financial and non-financial risk.
Haris has advised on numerous capital market-driven matters in a diverse range of industries. His experience includes successfully bringing resolution to sensitive internal issues affecting CEOs, boards, investors and stakeholders. He has experience of conducting board reviews and investigations including political risk-focused due diligence in public company board appointments.
Haris holds a master’s degree from the London School of Economics and was a research associate at London Business School in the strategy area.
